"Phillies in 5"

You are either livid or ecstatic at the moment. The Yankees have done it again for the baseball-leading 27th time. Few baseball enthusiasts are indefferent about this one.

Sorry Jimmy Rollins, but the Phillies were overmatched--the Yankees deserved this one. However ambitious of Rollins to "promise" baseball a 5-game slaughtering of the Yankees, arrogance will always come bakc to bite you.

Where do you stand on Jimmy Rollins famous comment? Did the Yankees run away with their 27th? Please share your comments with us.

THREE SWEEPS!

This is classic October baseball making history. The Yankees, Angels, and Dodgers ALL sweep their respective division series, and the Phillies win over the Rockies in 4 games.

We were all naturally expecting the Yankees to sweep, but how did both LA teams sweep?

The Angels are a team who went 1-9 versus the Sox in the last 5 years of playoff battles! The Dodgers faced a team with 2 strong Cy Young contenders and beat them both!

Now we anticipate the Championship Series as the Yankeesy Angels Face off and the Dodgersd Phillies face off.

My prediction: Yankees win in 5 and Dodgers win in 6!

OctoberFest

October is upon us once again, and that can only mean one thing: it's time to grow the infamous OctoBeard...wait...oh, right, just the 2009 MLB playoffs. But I strongly exhort you to consider growing out the scruff for the season if for no other reason than to emulate the stubby shadow of your favorite closer. So here is the latest sneak peak at the playoff team matchups as we anticipate the magic that October always provides:

AL Team Matchups:
New York Yankees: AL East Champs
vs.
Detroit Tigers: AL Central Champs (or Minnesota Twins...although it's very unlikely)

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (<worst name in MLB): AL East champs
vs.
Boston Red Sox: AL Wild Card Winner

NL Team Matchups:
Los Angeles Dodgers: NL West Champs (<Not necessarily true, but by no means a s t r e t c h)
vs.
Either the St. Louis Cardinals or the Philadelphia Phillies

The remainder of the above 2 teams (Cardinals or Phillies)
vs.
Colorado Rockies: NL Wild Card winner

Okay, so I made a few assumptions, but there are going to have to be some radical streaks for any of these likely matchups to change. Other options:

Detroit Tigers go 1-3 or worse in their remaining 4 games AND Minnesota Twins go 3-1 or better in their remaining 4 games. If BOTH of these events occur, then there will either be a 1 game playoff (in the event of a tie), or the Minnesota Twins will win the division outright (yeah, right!).

Otherwise, the aforementioned teams are all going to make the playoffs. The only thing pending is the matchups in the NL.

PS: It would be bad for MLB if any of the ReD teams won the crown...
